1st Project

I hate school projects with a passion! Of coarse, the first day of school a project got sent home. I hate school already......
We had to make a "me" of Kaleb. It tells about what he likes to do so his class can get to know him better. So Sunday we went to Michel's and bought scrapbook stickers for his project. The boys helped about 5 minutes.

Then the three of us got bored and started being silly. Needless to say, Brian had to finish the rest on his own.

Waterslide

Our yard is too small for the water slide so we left it with my parents when we moved from Rossville. It was our first time this year to use it so you couldn't wipe the smiles off the boys faces. Austin's finally big enough to climb up the ladder and isn't scared to go by himself. It's so much less work for me. The boys played on it Friday night and all day Saturday.

Artist

The boys love to paint any and everything.

They play at their art table all the time coloring, doing play-doh, moon sand, and painting. The art never stops! I'm the most uncreative person you've ever met so they must have gotten it from Brian. Today we painted our faces and arms. It was the biggest mess you've ever seen but hours of entertainment and silly giggles. Nothing beats that!

My Big Backyard

We LOVE this place. It's at the Botanical Gardens and is free on Wednesdays after 12. We met Brian there today and had a blast. This is Kaleb's last Wednesday of summer so we decided to make it a family day. We were there for 3 hours and easily could have stayed longer. If you haven't been, you need to GO!

First day of school

Here's our big Kindergartner..................

He was so excited this morning. He woke up at 7:15 then went straight into his closet to pick out his clothes. I went upstairs to see what he was doing and he was told me he had to hurry up and get dressed because he didn't want to be late. I told him we had to eat breakfast and take a bath before he got dressed. He looked at me confused because he has absolutely no concept of time.

We ate breakfast together then both the boys took a bath. I had him ready for school by 8:30 so it gave me 10 minutes to finish up getting ready physically and mentally. I was okay until I talked to my Mom, then I lost it. I called Brian and told him Kaleb was going to have to wait until next year to start Kindergarten and that I was keeping him home with me. He laughed and tried to give me a pep talk. I got annoyed and got off the phone because it wasn't what I wanted to hear. It took about 5 minutes to it together, then we headed out the door.

School's only 3 minutes away so it didn't take but a second to get there. I parked the truck then headed inside. His teacher was extremely nice. Only four boys were there today so they could get to know each other. Two of the Mom's were in there when I arrived. I knelt down to fill out some paperwork and was very impressed at myself. I was FINE. Then the lady beside me asked if Kaleb was my oldest. I felt the tears coming and looked up and said I don't wanna talk about it. She changed the subject extremely fast so i only had a couple of tears fall. I took a picture with the boys then bolted out the door. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Honestly, I didn't shed anymore tears after that. Come Monday, we shall see!

Austin's been wanting to go to the zoo for awhile, but Kaleb thinks the zoo smells and doesn't like to go. As soon as I asked Austin what he wanted to do today he screamed THE ZOO! So, off we went. I kept thinking it was going to rain but it never did. It was a wonderful day to go because it was overcast and only about 82 degrees. The humidity was horrible but at least the sun wasn't beaming on us.

We live to close to ride the bus so we either have to walk, wait in the LONG carpool line, or park and wait for him. I decided to park and wait. I arrived about 3:45 then headed up to the crossing guard. I know one person who lives in my neighborhood and luckily, she was standing there. She told me what to expect and introduced me to about 15 mom's from my neighborhood. I even met the lady that lives across the street from me! At 4:00 you see a pack of kids walking towards us. The big kids were in the front and I was stressing out that I couldn't see Kaleb. As they got closer, I saw two little boys holding a teacher's hand at the very back of the group. Apparently, Kindergartner's have to walk with the teacher so I'm good with that. Kaleb came walking up to us with the biggest grin on his face. He was so proud of himself and I don't think I could have been any prouder of him either.

He got an E in conduct(thank God) and a lot of papers were sent home. They went on a scavenger hunt around school looking for raccoons. It was an entertaining way for them to tour the school so he got a kick out of that. I asked him if he liked his teacher and he said he did but she was sick today. I asked what was wrong with her and he told me she's just old(she's about my age). He thought his teacher was just like his last teacher in preschool. They have the same voice, make him do the same things, and she's old just like Ms. Faye was. He decided he liked her but she needs to take medicine because of her age(I have no idea where this is coming from).

We had to go over the rules of conduct, I had to sign it, then send it back to the teacher. While I was reading it to him, his eyes got big and he took a deep breath. I said "what's wrong"? He looked at me frighted and said "I didn't want you to see that. I was going to throw that away so you wouldn't know if I got my bear changed". Then we had to have another talk.......
Thankfully, he doesn't ride the bus and a teacher has to hold his hand until he gets to me!

I asked him if he got in trouble and he said he didn't but the other 3 boys did. Apparently, the teacher left the room during "a really long rest time, the longest one you've ever seen". All 4 of the boys got up and Kaleb peeked out the door looking for the teacher. He saw her and ran back to his towel because he "was sneaking". The other 3 were still running around when she walked in the room so they got in trouble. I'm not sure how much I believe, but this is all I could pull out of him. At least he got an E for conduct!

Tired

I feel like I'm trying to squeeze the entire summer into one week. I'm not sure why, but it's been CRAZY! We've had so many errands to run lately that the days are passing bye like hotcakes. We were busy all morning doing odds and ends and then made it home about 12:00 for a nap. The boys haven't taken a nap in forever but they definitely needed it. They were out within 10 minutes and slept for two hours! After they woke up, we went outside and the boys played in the sprinklers. They've never played in the sprinklers at this house because they come on at 4 am so they've never seen them.

I'm Scared

Kaleb was sitting at lunch today and started to tear up. I asked him what was wrong and he told me he didn't want to go to Kindergarten and he is scared. I asked him why and he said "Mom, I'm growing up way too fast and need to slow down(Brian tells him that all the time). I'm not ready to go to college and move away from Dad and you".
Poor thing:( I wanted to bust out crying! It feels like that's all I'm doing right now! BUT, I had to sit down excitedly and talk to him about how much fun Kindergarten is going to be and how many new friends he's going to make. Yea, Kindergarten Boohoo Boohoo................ I also told him college was a long way away and by the time he left for college, he would be ready to go. He didn't buy it and promised he would always want to live here with Brian and I. Ha! We shall see when he becomes a teenager!

School registration

This morning I registered Kaleb for Kindergarten:( Registration started at 7:30 so I decided to wait until 8:15 to arrive. I didn't want to get caught in line with the people trying to do it before heading to work. Once I arrived, I was a nervous wreck. I had no clue what to do or where to go. Luckily, it was very organized and didn't take too long. I got my car number first, then headed to the cafeteria for registration. Only Kindergarten was in there because we had a TON of paperwork. It took me 45 minutes to fill out all the forms. Thankfully, my mother-in-law watched the boys so I didn't have to worry about them. A lot of other parents brought their kids and fought with them to sit down the entire time.
Once I filled out all the forms I headed up to the Kindergarten teachers to turn everything in. As soon as I sat down at the lunch table(they had the same ones as Skyview) I wanted to bust out crying. I sat there quietly, staring, waiting, watching, as the teacher checked everything. I wanted to talk to her but I was scared if I opened my mouth, not only words, but fountains of tears would come pouring out. I had so many questions, but I couldn't muster up the voice to ask them. Oh well, I guess I'll figure everything out. At least I didn't boohoo!
After I got done with the teacher I headed to the serving area of the cafeteria to put money on Kaleb's account. I had no idea how much money to put on it or even if he needed money. I always pack his lunch, but apparently they have "fun Friday's" for Kindergarten. I'm not exactly sure what "fun Friday's" are because the cafeteria lady was talking about my purse and I was glad to be talking about something else other than registering Kaleb for school.

I've never been to a public school before and I never thought I would send my kids to one. My parents did everything they could so Shawn and I could always attend private schools and here I am, sending mine to public. I'm extremely nervous and weary about it. Our elementary schools are really great here. Bailey Station(where the boys will go) is the newest elementary school in Collierville. It's about 5 years old and has really great teachers. Some of them I went to college with so that makes me feel a little better. I don't know any of the Kindergarten teachers, but hopefully Kaleb will get a good one. I find out Friday at 6:00 pm who his teacher is. Also, I didn't know that Kindergarten only goes one day next week! I thought on Monday he would start going to school from 9-4 everyday. I got to pick which day I want him to go next week so I put down Tuesday or Thursday. Yea! One more week of SUMMER!!!!!
